Bondage Judge Inquiry Introduces New Information

Madam Justice Lori Douglas has now received formal notice of the subject matters that will be canvassed by a five-member judicial panel in Winnipeg, convened to assess her fitness to remain on the bench in light of the well-publicized events relating to her husband, lawyer Jack King’s dealings with his client, Alexander Chapman, who he enticed to engage in a sexual relationship with Judge Douglas.

The notice of allegations include the assertion that Judge Douglas “knowingly participated with her husband and then-law partner, Jack King, in the sexual harassment of Alex Chapman” and participated in “two social encounters with Mr. Chapman where the judge and Mr. Chapman engaged in touching”.

The second allegation concerns Judge Douglas’ application to become a judge, which required the completion of a form that asked: “Is there anything in your past or present which would reflect negatively on yourself or the judiciary and which should be disclosed?” She answered “no” to the question.

The third allegation focuses on the question of Judge Douglas’ capacity to maintain the image and integrity required of the judiciary in circumstances where nude photos of her are publicly available.

The final allegation suggests that Judge Douglas modified her personal diary entry that described a meeting with Mr. Chapman after the investigation of Mr. Chapman’s complaint to the Canadian Judicial Council was lodged.

Through her counsel, Madam Justice Douglas released a written statement in response to the notice of allegations, which will be the subject of tomorrow’s post. A ten-day hearing will commence on June 25. For full coverage of this case, I recommend articles in the Winnipeg Free Press.

  1. First, we had the independent Officers of Parliament like Radwanski who were found to be way out of bounds, and then the RCMP became mired in countless discipline cases and lawsuits for failures in conduct, and now Judges, with one Judge even charged with murder. A complete moral failure in character.

  2. I have been following this story and tweeted on it. Yet I feel the proper telling of the tale has not been had. There is also the recent RCMP officer who is under investigation for posting naked bdsm orientated pictures on a private website, which were then copied by an unkown third party (many of which do not involve the actual officer)

For me the personal consensual sex lives of legal professionals, police officers, politicians, and even judges are none of our business and their privacy should be respected. Further I believe that 3rd parties are using these photos to gain an unconscionable advantage; a divorcing husband, a frequent litigator with a bad rep, and an unknown 3rd party with an axe to grind.
