Canada.com’s Readers Have Their Say About Canadian Immigration

Lawdiva’s article “Immigration Should Be About Policy, Not Politics”, published by Postmedia on April 20, 2011 elicited spirited debate from Canadians from coast to coast.

The thesis of the article was that Canada needs to reexamine its immigration policies focusing on the long, publicly funded “ride” that illegal immigrants enjoy before they are finally removed from Canada and the folly of admitting immigrants with professional degrees, but placing barriers on their admission to practice in their areas of expertise.

Some of the many comments on canada.com include the following excerpts:

“We don’t need a ban on immigration, but definitely serious restrictions.”

“This article hits it on the head.”

“Absolutely true. The aging population argument is a ponzi scheme.”

“It just goes to show you how ignorant you Canadians are with respect to your immigration policies and shame on the author of the article who is supposed to be a lawyer.”

“I think Georgialee Lang’s analysis is dead on.”
